“Namaste India Festival –Manipuri Dance Performance”

As part of “Namaste India Festival”, Embassy of India, Nur-Sultan organized a Manipuri dance performance each at Almaty, Nur-Sultan and Karaganda on April 2, 4 and 5, 2015 by an ICCR-sponsored Manipuri folk dance troupe from Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy. A short film on Manipur was screened before the performance.
Mr. Galym Mutanov, Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was the Chief Guest at the performance in Almaty. Heads of various international organizations, members of diplomatic corps, students of Al-Farabi university and Mahatma Gandhi school, members of Indian community and people from different walks of life attended the performance.  

At Nur-Sultan, the performance was attended by several Ambassadors, representatives of local government, prominent Kazakh nationals, representatives of the diplomatic corps, members of the Indian community, dance and music lovers and other friends of India. 

The performance in Karaganda was attended by more than 750 people including members of Indian community and workers of ArcelorMittal, Temirtau, JSC.  Ms. Sholpan Mirza Hassimova, Deputy Mayor of Temirtau was the chief guest at the function. At the end, a group of children from Kazakh Cultural Centre, Temirtau performed two items of bollywood dance.  

The dance group enthralled the audiences with their delightful and captivating dance performance which included two group dance numbers of Pung Cholom and Dhol Cholom, two items of martial art dance Thang-ta and two solo items, Dasa Avatar and Krishna Vandana. The group received standing ovation from the audiences. 

The Embassy acknowledges the support received from ONGC Videsh Ltd.; ArcelorMittal, Temirtau; National Art Gallery, Nur-Sultan; Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty; M/s KEC International Limited; Tea Board of India; Gateway International Inc.; and M/s Fly Dubai for arranging local hospitality for the group.
