Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) was established in the year 1994 in the city of Almaty. With the shifting of the national capital of Kazakhstan to Astana, SVCC also moved its premises to the city Astana in the year 2007.
SVCC is an integral part of the Embassy of India, both administratively and functionally. It is funded by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (www.iccr.gov.in), which was established in the year 1957 with the objective of promoting and strengthening India’s cultural relations with other countries of the world.
Major objective of SVCC is to organize activities that strengthens India’s age-old cultural linkages with Kazakhstan. SVCC facilitates cultural and academic cooperation between India and Kazakhstan, both at institutional and individual levels. Through its activities, SVCC intends to enhance people-to-people connect between the peoples of the two countries.
SVCC holds regular classes of Indian dance and music as also in Yoga, which has been an integral part of ancient Indian cultural heritage. SVCC organizes concerts of Indian dance and music with the participation of Kazakh artistes. It also organizes concerts of performing art groups from India in various cities of Kazakhstan. Academic conferences and interaction with Kazakh universities and institutions is also one of the major focus areas. SVCC also facilitates students of Kazakhstan to study in India on various scholarship schemes as also on self-finance basis. SVCC closely works with universities, institutions, academies, schools and organizations of Kazakhstan to establish contact with their respective counterparts in India for engaging into a fruitful cooperation. Celebrations of important occasions and festivals of both India and Kazakhstan are regularly organized. It also puts up various activities in collaboration with Indian Diaspora and Indian students associations spread in various cities of Kazakhstan.
