Celebration of 147th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 10th International Day of Non-Violence

The Embassy celebrated 147th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the tenth International Day of Non-Violence at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Nur-Sultan on 2nd October, 2016. The celebration began with garlanding of the Bust of Mahatma Gandhi. Prof. Yerlan Sydykov, Rector of the University and Ambassador Shri Harsh Jain welcomed the guests and addressed the gathering. H.E. Mr. Roman Vassilenko, Deputy Foreign Minister graced the event as the Chief Guest and spoke on the occasion. Mr. Norimasa Shimomura, UN Resident Coordinator spoke on the importance of International Day of Non-violence and Archbishop Francis Chullikatt, Apostolic Nuncio, Embassy of Vatican spoke on the life of Mahatma Gandhi and the relevance of Gandhian values in today’s world. Mr. Issayev Nursultan and Mr. Zhakay Arman, two students of the University spoke on how Mahatma Gandhi inspired them. A documentary film on Mahatma Gandhi was screened for the students before the event and a Book and Photo Exhibition (Mohan to Mahatma) on Mahatma Gandhi was organized at the venue. About 240 people attended the celebration.
