The Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH) under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India is organizing a global forum titled “Regulation of Homoeopathic Medicinal Products: Advancing Global Collaboration” in Goa, India, from 23rd to 25th January 2019. This unique Forum will bring together all the key public and private sector stakeholders (e.g. WHO representatives, drug regulators, drug manufacturers and traders) involved in implementing and shaping the regulation of homoeopathic medicinal products.

Homoeopathy is one of the recognized and popular medical systems in India and is promoted by Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homoeopathy). The demand for homoeopathic products by patients and healthcare providers is increasing worldwide too, which, in turn, needs to be underpinned by appropriate regulatory frameworks that ensure the availability of high quality homoeopathic medicinal products. This forum will be a platform to discuss regulatory challenges related to trade and manufacture of homoeopathic medicines and their possible solutions. International convergence on quality, safety and clinical standards will be discussed, and lessons learnt will be exchanged. More details of the forum are available at www.wimforum.org.

Representatives of WHOand several international regulatory forums and Heads of CEOs of leading international and Indian drug manufacturers are expected to attend this forum. Besides, representatives of Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Commission of the United States (HPCUS) and international homoeopathic associations like LigaMedicorumHomoeopathica Internationalis (LMHI) and European Committee of Homoeopathy (ECH) will be attending. Collaboration in the regulatory domain is essential to ensure consistent quality and to promote global trade. One of the key topics will be to advance collaboration among various countries. India, with a strong and rich homoeopathic tradition, is uniquely placed to host this event.

The core strength and purpose of this event lies in active participation of drug controllers/regulators who look after the policies related to homoeopathic/complementary/traditional medicines from various parts of the world, since this forum will enable their direct interaction with the manufacturers and traders. The perspectives of both the ends can, therefore, be understood in light of the demand for homoeopathic medicines. The presence of regulators would also work towards opening more avenues for the use and availability of homoeopathic medicines in the respective countries. The contact person for the forum is Dr. Raj K. Manchanda, Director General, CCRH, who can be reached at rk.manchanda@nic.in and ccrh.international@gmail.com for further practical details about participation.
