Ambassador’s Speech on ITEC Day 2022

Distinguished Chief Guest  H.E.  Yergaliev Kuanysh Asylkhanovich, Dear   ITEC Alumni

and dear friends,

Good evening!

I extend you a very warm welcome on the occasion of the celebration of the ITEC Day today.

ITEC is an acronym for the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme, which was formally instituted by the Government of India in September 1964. It is the flagship programme of India’s development cooperation for capacity building with 160 partner countries and 13 multilateral agencies for training in about 1000 premier institutions in India every year. The training programme covers a wide range of subjects in different sectors including Information Technology, English Proficiency, Financial Management, Parliamentary Studies, Agricultural Practices, Remote Sensing, Environmental Technology, Web Designing and so on.  As part of the programme, India provides not only technical know-how and capacity building in civilian and defence spheres, but also project-related activities such as consultancy services, feasibility studies, deputation of Indian experts abroad, study tours, humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

2. Kazakhstan has been India’s ITEC partner since 1992. Since then, about 1329 professionals from Kazakhstan comprising about 1041 civilian participants and about 288  defence personnel have availed of the short term specialized capacity building training programmes offered under ITEC.      After a gap of more than 2 years,   Regular ITEC courses have now started.

3. On the occasion of the 30th  anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and India   ITEC Slots for Kazakhstan have been increased   from 75 to 100. This will enable  more and more   professionals, experts and students from Kazakhstan to benefit from the ITEC Programme in the coming years and in turn contribute to the socio-economic

progress of Kazakhstan and friendly relations between our two countries.  A sculpture of the great Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai Kunanbayev was unveiled on June 2 in New Delhi to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and India.

4. We are celebrating India’s 75 years of Independence in Kazakhstan with the enthusiastic participation of our Kazakh friends here. On the occasion of  the 75th anniversary of India's independence and the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence, various master classes on Indian Dance,  Music and Yoga were organised by SVCC, Embassy of India, in different cities all over Kazakhstan.

5. Our bilateral relations are ancient and historic.  There are great cultural imprints of each other on both sides.    India believes in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam -  The world is a family and shares its knowledge and skills with the world.  ITEC is part of that philosophy. Let us mark this day with celebrations today!
