Opening Remarks by Ambassador Y. K. Sailas Thangal Virtual Conference with FICCI and Indian Business Delegation.

November 03, 2025

Good afternoon, friends,

It is a privilege to join you today and to engage with the distinguished members of FICCI, who continue to embody the vibrancy, depth, and global vision of Indian industry. I deeply appreciate this opportunity to exchange ideas on how we can collectively unlock the full potential of trade and investment between India and Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan—Central Asia’s largest and most dynamic economy—offers a landscape of opportunities that Indian businesses can and should explore with greater seriousness and strategic intent. With its abundant natural resources, forward-looking economic policies, and unique geographic position connecting Europe and Asia, Kazakhstan presents itself not merely as a trading partner, but as a valuable economic gateway for Indian enterprises.

The Government of Kazakhstan has undertaken sustained reforms to create an investor-friendly ecosystem, with particular focus on priority sectors such as energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, IT, agriculture, logistics, and infrastructure development. These are sectors where India’s capabilities, innovation, and entrepreneurial strengths can make a transformative contribution.

Our bilateral relations have always been marked by trust, warmth, and a shared commitment to development. This political goodwill now needs to translate into stronger economic engagement. The time is ripe for Indian businesses to move from intent to implementation—by exploring partnerships, establishing local presence, and investing in long-term collaborations.

There is substantial potential for cooperation in renewable energy, digital technologies, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, education, engineering solutions, textiles, and food processing. The demand is real, the environment is conducive, and the opportunities are abundant.

Improving connectivity remains a critical enabler, and both countries are working actively to strengthen trade routes—including through the International North-South Transport Corridor, INSTC, and the broader Central Asia–India connectivity initiatives. These will significantly reduce transit time and cost, making Kazakhstan an even more attractive destination for Indian exporters and investors.

I strongly encourage our Indian businesses to view Kazakhstan not merely as an isolated market, but as a strategic springboard to the wider Eurasian Economic Union—providing seamless access to a regional market of over 180 million consumers. This is an opportunity that deserves serious consideration and timely action.

Let me assure you that the Embassy of India in Astana stands fully committed to supporting your business endeavours. We are ready to facilitate your engagements, provide insights, and assist you in navigating the local business environment so that your ventures in Kazakhstan are both successful and sustainable.

I look forward to your ideas, initiatives, and collaborations that will add greater substance and momentum to the expanding India–Kazakhstan partnership.

Thank you.
