The Embassy of India, Astana in corporation with Medical Universities in Kazakhstan has been endeavoring to initiate measures for the welfare of Indian Medical students coming to Kazakhstan to pursue medicine to provide them an insurance coverage to continue to studies every year at a meagre cost of US$ 75.  This would also cover the cost of the mandatory preventive medical checkup/tests required by Government of Kazakhstan every year which itself cost around US$ 40-45. Therefore, this extensive coverage up to the value of US$ 50,000, including medical evacuation  in the case of eventuality, is made available at  additional modest payment of US$ 25-30 per year students would be able to get substantially broader medical and emergency protection during their stay in Kazakhstan. In this connection, the Embassy had obtained quotations from three reputed insurance companies operating in Kazakhstan. Following an assessment of the coverage offered and the premium quoted, the best offer was provided by M/s Sinoasia B&R Insurance Company with a premium of US$ 75 per student per year offering the most comprehensive and cost-effective annual insurance package providing extensive benefits, including:

• Overall insurance coverage of up to US$ 50,000, including medical evacuation and expenses for one accompanying person;

• Coverage of up to US$ 10,000 for transportation of mortal remains, including expenses for one accompanying person;

• In-patient medical treatment coverage of up to US$ 4,000;

• Out-patient medical treatment and care coverage of up to US$ 250;
• Coverage of the mandatory preventive medical examination (Form 075/Y); and
• Access to a 24x7 multilingual assistance and consultation centre, providing support in Kazakh, Russian and English language.

It is important to underscore that the deal could be reached with the said company given the number of the Indian Medical students in Kazakhstan which is more than 10,000 according to conservative estimate.  

In this connection the Embassy of India had held several meetings with rectors of all medical universities and Agents of medical universities. All have agreed to implement the insurance package as a welfare measure being provided by M/s Sinoasia B&R Insurance company. The company has provided a list of medical centres (copy attached) through their partner Archimedes Medical Group LLP to conduct preventive medical checkup and provide other medical facilities which can be availed by the Indian students in Kazakhstan. The measure has been taken in terms of providing comfort and peace to all stakeholders including students, families in India, Universities, etc. The decision to implement this insurance coverage for medical students in Kazakhstan has been taken in the light of the fact that there have been many fatal incidents in the recent past involving huge expenditure, including on medical evacuation.

In view of the above, the Embassy urge all the Indian students in Kazakhstan to avail this insurance package from M/s Sinoasia B&R Insurance company which has been worked out after negotiations with a few insurance companies  The measure being taken by the Embassy is purely for the welfare of Indian students and has also been conveyed to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
