- Embassy of India Astana 01/10/2026 Advisory for Indian Students Planning Medical Studies in Kazakhstan The Embassy of India in Astana welcomes the growing number of students pursuing higher education in India and Kazakhstan and encourages greater two-way educational exchanges between our two countries. 2. Indian students planning to pursue medical education in Kazakhstan are, however, advised to take note of a recent change in the policy concerning the duration of medical studies. 3. Under the new policy in Kazakhstan, the standard duration of the medical course is seven years. The policy however, provides for International students the possibility of completing the course in six years through an accelerated/fast-track pathway, subject to specified conditions and requirements of the concerned authority. Additionally at present, there is no clear official confirmation available to the Embassy regarding the issuance of a licence to practise medicine to an international student who completes the course in six years under the accelerated program. The Embassy has sought clarification from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and is awaiting an official response. 4. In view of the above, the prospective Indian students and their parents are advised to carefully verify the applicable rules and requirements with the concerned university and relevant Kazakh authorities before making a decision to enrol. Students should particularly note that they should not assume that the medical course will necessarily be completed in six years and should be prepared for the possibility that the course may extend to seven years under the new policy. The Embassy will share further information, as and when official clarification is received. 5. This advisory is issued in the interest of providing the prospective students and their parents with accurate information so that they can make informed decisions regarding their education in Kazakhstan
