Speech by Ambassador on the occasion of Onam Celebration

(Almaty, 6 September 2026)

Dear members of the Malayali community,

Namaskaram , Vanakkam and Onashamsakal!

It is a great pleasure and privilege to be with all of you here in Almaty to celebrate Onam—a festival that is not merely a celebration, but a beautiful reminder of who we are, where we come from and what values we carry with us.

Onam takes us back to our roots. It reminds us of the golden memories of our homes in Kerala—the fragrance of the pookalam, the warmth of family, the joy of the Onam sadya, and above all, the spirit of togetherness.

But Onam also carries a deeper message. The story of King Mahabali reminds us that true greatness lies not in power or wealth, but in humility, generosity, equality and concern for others. These are values that transcend borders and cultures.

As Malayalis living far away from our motherland, let us therefore never forget our roots. Wherever we live, whatever position we hold, let us remain proud representatives of our culture, our country and our values. Our roots gave us identity; our values give us dignity.

At the same time, we must remember that we are privileged guests in a friendly and welcoming country Kazakhstan. I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Kazakhstan for the warmth, hospitality and opportunities extended to the Indian community.

As we celebrate our traditions, let us also show the greatest respect for Kazakhstan's laws, its institutions, its social norms and its way of life. Let us be responsible members of the society in which we live—law-abiding, respectful, disciplined and considerate towards our Kazakh neighbours.

The strength of our community will not be measured only by our professional or economic achievements, but also by how we conduct ourselves and how positively we contribute to the country that has given us a home away from home.

My dear friends, let this Onam be a celebration of our heritage, a reaffirmation of our values and an expression of gratitude—to our families, to our motherland and to Kazakhstan.

May the spirit of Onam bring peace, prosperity, happiness and unity to every Malayali family here in Kazakhstan. Let us stay rooted in Kerala, proud of India, and respectful and grateful to Kazakhstan.

Happy Onam! Onashamsakal!
